Council supports Relay for Life
THE Moree Relay For Life committee has 10,000 reasons to smile this week thanks to a very generous partnership with Moree Plains Shire Council.
At the August 2 meeting, the council approved a donation of $10,000 to the overnight community event that raises money and awareness for Cancer Council NSW.
The donation will help offset the cost of putting on the event, expected to attract almost 1000 registered participants, at the Moree Showground on March 22 and 23, 2013.
Cancer Council’s community programs and events coordinator Alysia Norris said money raised from past Relay For Life events in Moree had been used to fund the refurbishment of a quiet room at the Moree oncology clinic, provide local survivors and carers with a free financial and legal referral service and financial assistance grants for individuals and community groups.
“Donations such as that given by Moree Plains Shire Council means more of the money raised by the community can go back to where it is really needed – supporting local families affected by cancer, funding prevention education programs and investing in vital research to improve cancer treatments and early detection,” she said.
To recognise the generosity of the council’s support, Moree Plains Shire Council will be the relay’s exclusive platinum sponsor.
The committee is currently seeking gold, silver and bronze sponsors for the event. For a sponsorship package email Alysia Norris at [email protected]南京夜网.au
Registrations in the Relay For Life are now open and can be made online at www.relayforlife南京夜网.au for just $15 per person and includes a shirt and breakfast.
