Hume councillor charged with assault of fellow councillor

A HUME councillor accused of assaulting a fellow councillor will appear in court later this month.

Cr Jack Ogilvie will appear in the Broadmeadows Magistrates Court charged over an alleged assault involving fellow councillor Adem Atmaca.

Cr Atmaca has accused Cr Ogilvie of assaulting him before a council meeting on October 10 last year.

Cr Ogilvie confirmed with the Weekly that he would be appearing in court for a compulsory hearing.

The court listing states Cr Ogilvie will appear on July 30 for a mention hearing.

Cr Ogilvie said he would not make any further comment, except to say he would fight the charge.

Cr Atmaca said that he was unable to comment as the case was before the courts.

Leading Senior Constable Flavio Visentin says police have charged a 65-year-old Sunbury man in relation to an assault on October 10 but cannot comment further.

Chief executive Domenic Isola said the council was aware of an upcoming court case involving a Hume councillor.

“As this is a matter before the court, it would be inappropriate to comment on any details and possible outcomes.

“Council is not liable for any legal costs involved in this matter.”
