CAMPBELLFIELD’S Lisa Weightman shattered her previous personal best time in the women’s marathon, running in 17th overall with a time of 2 hours 27 minutes and 32 seconds.
She knocked more than a second off her previous best, 2:28:48, in the 2010 Nagano marathon. A bronze medallist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Weightman slowly worked her way through the field, gaining places every 5km to record a great time.
The event was won by Ethiopia’s Tiki Gelana with a time of 2:23:07, which was a new Olympic record.
