Westmeadows Tavern hit by masked bandits

VICTORIA’S Embona taskforce detectives are investigating a violent robbery at the Westmeadows Tavern after three masked bandits robbed terrified patrons and grabbed cash from the till.

The thieves, carrying a gun, an axe and a baseball bat, also smashed four poker machines, causing $600,000 damage during their rampage at the Westmeadows Tavern, police said.

The robbery happened just before 10.30pm when three men smashed through a double glass door leading into the gaming room of the Ardlie Street tavern.

Six patrons, who were in the venue at the time of the robbery, were threatened and made to hand over their wallets and handbags.

The robbers also grabbed cash from a till after threatening a staff member.

The men ran from the venue into a car park and disappeared. No one inside the venue was hurt.

Detectives will scan CCTV of the robbery.
